What is a Giclee print and how does it differ from a fine inkjet print?

Giclee is a term developed in 1990 to set emerging digital art and superb quality prints apart from
more mundane proofs. Now the terms are interchangeable.

Giclee (zhee-clay) n. 1. a type of digital fine-art print. 2. Most often associated with reproductions;
a Giclee is a multiple print or exact copy of an original work of art that was created by conventional
means (painting, drawing, etc.) and then reproduced digitally, typically via inkjet printing. First use
in this context was done by Jack Duganne of Los Angeles, California in 1991.

Superb Equipment and Archival Inks

Our Epson 9000 printer enables us to offer Giclee printing using the new generation of ten
color fine art Ultra Chrome inks to provide the best archival digital reproduction available today.
With the addition of orange, green, and violet ink to our mix of CMYK, we can now offer better than 90%
accuracy for your Pantone colors.

Our Epson Stylus Pro 9000 series has achieved 98% coverage of the PANTONE MATCHING
SYSTEM®, as evaluated and certified by Pantone, LLC. Epson’s award-winning wide format

and the attainment of this exceptionally high PANTONE® coverage provides further proof of
Epson’s leadership in this field.

PANTONE is the definitive international reference for selecting, specifying, matching and controlling
ink colors. With the ability to achieve 98% coverage of PANTONE Colors, industry professionals using
Epson printers have a great deal of freedom when producing designs, proofs, and final images. I
t also enables designers to accurately reproduce corporate and brand colors and use a wide variety of
PANTONE spot colors for eye catching packaging.

In addition to Black, Cyan, Light Cyan, Vivid Magenta, Yellow, Vivid Light Magenta, Light Black Matte
and Light Light Black, Epson UltraChrome™ HDR ink includes Orange and Green ink which significantly
increases the range of colors that can be achieved, especially bright green to yellow, and yellow to red.

The Stylus Pro printers’ ability to achieve the widest color gamut produces high-quality images
featuring great subtlety and exceptionally smooth gradations. A unique three-level black ink
technology significantly improves the overall gray balance while enhancing the mid – tone and highlight
detail, which in turn gives a smoother tonal range. The high-density pigments ensure strong vibrant colors
and accurate neutral and dark tones.
