OCR
Optical Character Recognition explained:
*Optical character recognition*, usually abbreviated to *OCR*, is the
mechanical or electronic translation of images of handwritten, typewritten or
printed text (usually captured by a scanner into machine-editable text.

OCR is a field of research in pattern recognition, artificial intelligence and machine vision
Though academic research in the field continues, the focus on OCR has shifted to implementation
of proven techniques. Optical character recognition (using optical techniques such as mirrors
and lenses) and digital character recognition (using scanners and computer algorithms)
were originally considered separate fields. Because very few applications survive that use
true optical techniques, the OCR term has now been broadened to include digital image processing
as well.

Early systems required training (the provision of known samples of each character) to read a
specific font  “Intelligent” systems with a high degree of recognition accuracy for most type font styles
are now common. Some systems are even capable of reproducing formatted output that closely
approximates the original scanned page including images, columns and other non-textual components.

Riverside Prints offers several types of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) services to meet customers’ needs. All services are performed using industry’s best, high-resolution scanners and state of the art software for accuracy. Most importantly, our text output is  accurate for documents in good condition.

The first service, Auto-Feed Scanning covers all pages which can be sent through our document feeder. The second service is Manual Scanning and covers all other items including bound material, and other items which will not pass through the document feeder. OCR output can be in nearly any format you desire, whether Word, text, database, spreadsheet, etc.

If you have very large jobs or jobs that need to be done on an ongoing basis, please contact us for special pricing.

Pricing for various quantities for both services is shown below: (There is a minimum price of $75).

Some documents may require extra work to get data ‘cleansed’ and formatted into database fields. Specialized small programs are written to handle these at minimal cost.

Vector Drawing:
Also called Vector File. Consists of mathematically defined elements,
such as “Line from A to B”, “Circle with center and radius”, etc. CAD
systems use vector drawings because of their accuracy, relatively low
memory requirement and data-file sizes compared to raster images.
